A donation from the Swanston Hotel Grand Mercure and the Eva and Les Erdi Charitable Foundation is providing crucial support to a charity helping break the cycle of addiction.

The Mirabel Foundation helps children aged 0-17 years who have been orphaned or abandoned as a result of parental drug abuse and are now in the care of extended family (kinship care).

Fundraising from the team at The Swanston Hotel Grad Mercure has raised $8,113 raised for the charity, which was matched by the Eva and Les Erdi Humanitarian Charitable Foundation, bringing the donation total to $16,226.

The Mirabel Foundation was established in 1998 and remains the only Australian organisation specifically supporting kids that have been abandoned or orphaned due to parental drug use. Mirabel is currently helping more than 1400 children across Victoria and New South Wales.

Mirabel Foundation Founder and CEO, Jane Rowe, said Mirabel’s goal was to bring about positive change in the lives of children in order to break the cycle of substance abuse that repeats itself through generations.

“The tragedy of a drug-related death is compounded by the devastating effects it has on the lives of the children who are left behind. It is our focus to provide these children with emotional and practical support in order to help them have the most normal childhood possible,” she said.

ErdiGroup’s founders, the late Eva and Dr Les Erdi, were dedicated to advancing medical and humanitarian efforts. Their charity, The Eva and Les Erdi Humanitarian Charitable Foundation provides support for Australian charitable events and organisations.

In partnership with the Foundation, each of ErdiGroup’s seven hotels supports a local charity close to their heart. The Mirabel Foundation is The Swanston Hotel Grand Mercure’s charity partner.

Collectively, the group’s hotels have raised $32,304 for their charity partners, a figure which has been matched by the Eva and Les Erdi Humanitarian Charitable Foundation bringing the total contribution to $64,608.
